SPEDION GmbH is a partner company of the Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences (Aschaffenburg UAS) and the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. In cooperation with these two universities, we offer you the opportunity to complete a dual study programme in software development.
Do you want to gain practical experience even though you are not studying in a dual system? No problem! Working students and interns have a permanent place in our team, as do students who want to write their final thesis on something practical.

Cooperative Degree Programme in Computer Science – KoSI (B.Sc.)

A cool study combination – Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences

The Cooperative Degree Programme in Computer Science (KoSI) is a dual study programme offered by the university. The Bachelor of Science degree covers all the general and business informatics subjects over seven semesters combined with practical experience in a company. Students can choose from a wide variety of specialised modules to customise their study.

High level of practical relevance

Students can start the dual study programme in computer science either in the winter or summer semester. For the winter semester, applications close on 1 September, and for the summer semester, on 1 March. The university courses hold great importance to a high level of practical relevance. Throughout the study, students complete three practical phases in an IT partner company such as SPEDION. Besides the higher level of practical experience, graduates of a dual study programme often have good chances of being hired by the company as well as receive remuneration during this period.

The Cooperative Degree Programme in Computer Science is open to school graduates with a general university entrance qualification, a Hesse-valid subject-related entrance qualification or a technical college entrance qualification. The course is NC-free – there are no admission restrictions. Prior to enrolment, the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences requires a student contract with SPEDION as one of its IT partner companies. SPEDION has a branch office in Darmstadt, located only 2.5 kilometres from the university. You can find all the necessary information regarding the application process here.

Degree Programme in Software Design

Informal campus environment, international know-how – Aschaffenburg University of Applied Sciences

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in software design at the Aschaffenburg UAS teaches students all the skills required to develop high-quality software such as smartphone apps. The seven-semester course is divided into six academic semesters and one practical semester.

Sound theory meets practical experience

The dual study computer science programme starts in the winter semester in October, and applications close on 15 August. The university offers students the advantages of full-time study with in-depth practical relevance. Besides spending the fifth semester in an IT partner company such as SPEDION, students can also gain practical experience by working with software developers during semester break, for example. SPEDION is located only 25 kilometres from Aschaffenburg and has its headquarters in Krombach.

The software design course is for high school graduates with a general university entrance qualification. The course is NC-free – there are no admission restrictions. The Aschaffenburg UAS campus is relaxed and informal, right in the city's centre, with a vibrant international atmosphere. The university not only hosts students from around the world but also has exchange programmes with partner universities for students who wish to study abroad during their time at university.

Final exam thesis

Do you want to learn more than just theory? With us, you can complete your thesis and also gain practical experience!

Our product development department, for example, is always working on many exciting app, web and backend projects. We work with various languages such as Java, JS, C#, Swift, Kotlin, HTML and CSS.

You can complete this practical phase with us before starting your thesis. During that time, you'll be able to thoroughly familiarise yourself with our work here at SPEDION. And your mentor can help you with any questions or problems.

Possible thesis topics

  • Design and develop a graphical workflow concept for a SPEDION workflow
  • Backend trailer coupling via GPS positioning

Semester of practical and vocational training

Would you like to gain practical experience during your studies? Great!
You can complete your practical semester with us as well as a voluntary internship or work as a student trainee.

During an intensive induction phase, you will have a permanent mentor who will help you get to know SPEDION and your new area of responsibility.

In the beginning, we will familiarise you with our various departments (development, project management, support, production, etc.) to give you a general overview of the company. The scope of your training will depend on the duration of your work with us. After that, as a permanent team member, you will support us in our daily tasks and be given your own projects, where you will have the opportunity to take on responsibilities for yourself.
