An unusual heavy load

Transporting construction equipment, heavy agricultural machinery, even armoured tanks for the military, is all in a day’s work for our SPEDION customer Wocken Spedition.

Based in Haren/Ems in Lower Saxony, the Wocken team is a well-known expert in heavy and special transports. They recently transported something from Lagerlechfeld in Bavaria to Kaufbeuren in the Allgäu region, which was as unusual as it was challenging – even for them! They had to move a ten-tonne Eurofighter from the Lechfeld Air Base to the Air Force’s Technical Training Centre in Kaufbeuren. While most of the five-kilometre journey was on open country roads, the fighter jet could not avoid a spectacular appearance through Kaufbeuren’s city centre. And navigating the inner-city streets, intersections and roundabouts was no simple task for the Wocken team given the plane’s 11.5-metre wingspan!

The air force will use the Eurofighter to train its technical personnel. Even though the plane was airworthy, it was necessary to transport it overland because the training centre’s runway is closed to fighter jets. Not only was the move itself a brilliant accomplishment for Wocken Spedition, but the broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk even reported that the plane arrived one hour earlier than scheduled!

Respect for a magnificent achievement!
